ABOUT THE MAP

The Enable coal tenure database has been developed from tenement records sourced from the Queensland and NSW state government departments.

The tenements that comprise mines and projects are grouped together and shown as single assets. Principal tenement holders are also included to identify current ownership and control.

As at October 2016, there were 1192 pieces of tenure in Queensland (including applications) from which Enable has allocated 416 assets including 48 operating mines or complexes.

Overlays are provided of historic tenure, petroleum tenure, regional geology, coal transport and regional infrastructure and other considerations such as strategic cropping land. Enable has accessed many of the government held relinquishment reports which when combined with company and other publicly available data provide valuable sources of information. The compiled data provides an extensive fact base which is reviewed to provide a description of the asset using Enable’s assessment criteria.
